July’s blog has snuck up like a ninja wearing ballet flats (without the espionage, sabotage, infiltration, assassination and guerrilla warfare). They wear ballet flats right? Where has June gone?
To help ease into July we have six and a half (the half is a super-dooper sneaky peek of our next showcase artist) new pieces to introduce to you.
Zingy fun fact - July is ‘Horseradish Month’. It’s also ‘Ice Cream Month’ as proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan. Don’t say we don’t teach you things.
Let’s get our brain freeze on with a wee arty roundup of highlights which took place recently.
“Walking on water wasn’t built in a day.” – Jack Kerouac
Thanks Jack – no it wasn’t. Just ask 81-year-old visionary artist Christo, who is responsible for creating three kilometres of saffron-coloured ‘Floating Piers’ which connect the shore of Italy’s Lake Iseo to islands in the centre. The installation has seen a larger than projected number of people wanting to take a stroll on water leaving around 3000 people stranded at a nearby train station.
An Italian consumer group is getting all emotional about the amount of taxpayer dollars being spent on cleanup and public safety. Ummm, two words: Silvio Berlusconi.
We’re pretty sure Jesus didn’t have these challenges…
Captain Jack Sparrow Makes Basquiat Walk The Plank
Johnny Depp has sold works by Jean-Michel Basquiat at Christie’s London ‘Post-War and Contemporary Art’ auction.
“Did everyone see that? Because I will not be doing it again.” – Captain Jack Sparrow.
Elvis’ Pouf vs Bowie's 2 Inches
A two-inch lock of rock God and painter, David Bowie’s hair has recently sold for US $18,750. Thankfully (says Addicted), part of the proceeds will benefit the Soi Dog Foundation.
There were big hopes for Bowie’s two inches beating Elvis’ tresses “surreptitiously hoarded by his personal barber”. But the winner was… the hunka hunka burning love Elvis, with a record scorching sale of US$115,000 in 2002.
Marilyn’s ‘boobs’ and hair went up for auction last year by a former funeral home employee.
Between Team Addicted and its four-legged mascot, we have plenty of hair to auction. Any bidders?
Go To Jail. Go Directly To Jail.
Do Not Pass GO, Do Not Collect $200.
Performance artist Milo Moiré gave the 18+ Londoner public the chance to ‘cop a feel’ (with permission) for 30 seconds to bring attention to women’s rights and sexual equality - and gained the attention of a different kind of ‘cop’ when she was arrested for her efforts.
“My name is Milo Moiré, I’m a performance artist, and I stand here for women’s rights and sexual equality.
“We have the same sexual appeal as men have, but we decide when we will be touched, or not. Today, you have the chance to touch the box for thirty seconds and feel free. It doesn’t matter if you’re a woman or a man.”
Sing it people: “Can’t keep my hands to myself…” Selena Gomez.
