Arty-Fact: The dodo bird is one of the most famous examples of human-induced extinction. A large, flightless bird once native to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately, the species was wiped out less than 200 years after its discovery. The birds were known for their lack of fear towards humans, a trait that ultimately led to their demise.
"The Dodo is also one of my favorite characters in Alice in Wonderland, and it was a joy to paint one. I wanted to capture the whimsical nature and curiosity of the bird, as well as incorporate some of its characteristics into the painting." ~ The Space Cowboy
