“I see myself as a poster artist in the tradition of Cassandra, Villegot, Gruau, and other masters of the Post-War era. Yes, I pay homage to their work and create in their spirit, but I feel I have moved on from there. I’m carrying on where those guys left off.” – Razzia
Vive la Razzia!
Bonjour Addictees!
The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd and many others have been captured by the brilliance of an Addicted Art Gallery favourite – Frenchman, photographer and artist, Gérard Courbouleix–Deneriaz or simply, Razzia.
Razzia got his satisfaction by gaining the distinct reputation as the last graphic artist who can legitimately be called a posterist.
In the golden age of posters, the best artists were employed to create unique artist impressions for advertising campaigns without the use of computer generated graphics. French artist Razzia replicates this process by conceiving his posters from an original painting to produce his memorable Art Deco inspired works.
Now, one of the greatest living poster artists of our time is going heavy metal. No, he is not the latest member of Metallica, but he is producing his iconic images on aluminium. These spectacular pieces are signed by Razzia and limited to an edition of 250 each.
To excite the techie in you, here’s a quick outline of the process:
- The aluminium used is ‘avionic’ which prevents rust (yay for us in hot, sweaty, humid Singapore!)
- The panels have a special emulsion coating
- The image is created using an ink sublimation technique
- A Roland & HP Large Format Printer is used to apply the image
- The panels are press-heated to infuse the image into the metal
- The prints have an archival value of 100+ years (longer than any other printing method)
- The prints can be cleaned using a soft cloth or feather duster (not really technical this point – but good to know!)
- Lastly, the aluminiums pack a colour punch which just can’t be matched by paper or canvas.
Following are some of our favourites…
First off the rank is a selection of works from Razzia’s 25-year collaboration with luxury brand giant, Louis Vuitton:

“So much remains to be done. Like any artist I want to keep on creating, experimenting, and producing strong, positive images; new ideas that satisfy me creatively and yet still work for the public. I believe that it’s so important to vary the techniques used to avoid becoming mechanical and repetitive. I want to keep poster art fresh and alive.” – Razzia
The Razzia aluminiums are available in medium (85 x 105cm) and large (100 x 150cm) size and are made to order.

Fellow Addictees, que l’art puisse remplir votre âme! If Google Translate got it right, it should say “may art fill your soul” – ‘cause we’re deep and meaningful like that.
Au revoir! Adieu! À bientôt! À la prochaine! At least until our next newsletter…
