Ola Addictees!
It is with the greatest pleasure we introduce to you the newest member of the Addicted family, Ale Osollo.
Ale was born in Chihuahua (Mexico) in 1979. Her childhood, adolescence and youth were spent in a society bursting with Mexican customs and traditions.
In her mind and spirit dwells the magical fantasy that has accompanied her in dreams since she was a child. Art gave Ale the outlet to capture this other world using materials that were within her reach at the time - such as vegetables or fruit from the refrigerator and even toilet paper. Today, her works are narratives, rich in symbolism that draw on heritage.
Ale pushes the boundaries with materials and with references. She playfully winks at popular culture and Mexican muralism. In her eagerness to explore and experiment, Ale combines non-traditional materials to achieve the epiphany of a new surface. Her style is considered empirical and irreverent to the fundamental rules of painting. The curious behaviour of compositions or mixtures of materials and tones are part of the game that disturb and excite her artistic soul. "Rarely are things back and white." ~ Ale Osollo

Introducing Ale's arresting artwork...
"Pelele", mixed media on canvas, 2018
Arty-Fact: "Pelele is a character in my imagination. He has been a presence from the time I began human figure studies. He has appeared again and again to take life in my imagination. He is a reflection of me. What is echoed back in the canvas is an interpretation of my soul.
"The scene depicted in this work comes from an imaginary world reflected in a puddle of water. A portal into another world. From there, you can see what the mind invites you to create, each with their imagination can see what their reflection suggests." ~ Ale Osollo
"Marea", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "This is a changing and vulnerable work of art. Like the rise and fall of tides, governed by the gravitational pull of the Sun and the Moon. These forces influence the feelings of all, including mine during the painting's creation.
"The moment is recorded and captured in a time where nature overtakes reason; where everything is fluid and governed by water.
"When viewed up close, the piece is incomprehensible in the ecstatic and chaotic behaviour of its materials.
"From a distance, there is a natural awareness. A calmness manifests when the work is viewed in its entirety." ~ Ale Osollo
"Derecho & Revez", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "The ghostly silhouettes created using pointillism techniques gives us the option to place the painting to the right or the other way around.
"Woman and Man always in a fight, or balanced at the helm.
"The premeditated fight between the two sexes offers us the possibility that we can be in the same place without one being above or below the other.
"Based on their positions and placement with the tension between both internal and external forces, they are complimentary - a concept of balance and compensation.
"The theme of gender equality is entirely fundamental to the work and in life, since it is necessary to advance and find harmony in our world.
"Recognizing that both men and women are part of a whole on the same plane makes us grow as individuals in society. We are born with a different gender and different physical characteristics, however, these differences only exist on the physical plane. At the molecular and spiritual level, we are equal.
"The idea of rivalry and competition disappears.
"This relationship contributes to balance and empathy towards others." ~ Ale Osollo
Arty-Fact: "The premonitory silhouettes appear and disappear depending on the view of the perceiver.
"Considered within an impressionistic and figurative style, the work suggests to an indefinite group of people, sometimes more, sometimes less, travelers in a boat.
"Together or apart, there is an interconnectivity in their food, culture, race - we are all part of the boat.
"Honouring unity with my life, knowing that we are one.
"Honouring my unity with life, realising that everything is one.
"As individuals, not all of us are alike. We have different lifestyles, beliefs and perceptions.
"When we begin to understand this concept of life in unity, the idea of a personal "I" will lead us to the universal "I"." ~ Ale Osollo
Arty-Fact: "Nature is devastating and fascinating.
"I felt lost when it came to me...between the struggle of homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures, this storm of natural materials, full of vibrant passion represents the character and fury of the scene.
"The darkest point of the night is the time just before sunrise.
"The origami ship in the waters of the restless seas is created with a textile collage. It is the shining star in the middle of a whirlpool in the universe. It is a light that jumps and illuminates the darkest point of the night bringing hope and rebirth.
"The emotion expressed in this painting entitled Paper Storm is extremely powerful." ~ Ale Osollo
"Contemplacion", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "This work of art is a blessing.
"Whether thinking about the past, or thinking about the future, pause and visualise the aroma of the space you are in, and attribute a feeling to it. It will keep us present and make us worthy of being the children and soldiers of the earth. It is a magical connection to which we all have access." ~ Ale Osollo
"Mujer Pajaro", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "The work imagines a ghost.
"A messenger of the gods with his single and feminine presence.
"Birds are like metaphors for the human soul.
"They migrate and therefore appear and disappear due to their day or night habits, by the places where they land or by the sounds they make, by what they hear and see. Birds resonate daily in my paintings as an innate need.
"Reflections of the brush." ~ Ale Osollo
"Vagabunda", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "This work is about a woman who offers shelter and protection to those around her. She is an inspiration for any female. This painting exudes strength through the different mixtures and layers, the dense textures and smooth composition.
"As in life, when a being has a lot of light, nothing can cloud it.
"This beautiful woman who contemplates universes, protects the beings in her lap, and dominates every world she faces.
"The brightness surrounding her lights her way and fills her with healthy and useful thoughts which in turn positively affect the lives of all she encounters." ~ Ale Osollo
"Cleopatra", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "Cleopatra refers to the epic gods and rulers of Mexican culture.
"Using paper collage, its fantasy theme features fairies wrapped in the winds and mermaids submerged in the water with a fixed gaze on the ancient magic of my beloved Mexico. A magic that lulls, and colours which make the heart sing.
"For me, Mexico is the origin of this land; full of veins and volcanoes, its temperatures, miraculous plants and animals that the universe conserved." ~ Ale Osollo
"Paleta de Pintor", mixed media on wooden board, 2020
Arty-Fact: "The title of this piece comes from the palette I used for the artwork. Its uneven mixture of colour and its variety of pigments; the dry paint created in the moulds; the recycled techniques and heterogeneous mixtures.
"In its deeper meaning, this is an environmental piece. By conserving the materials used in daily life comes this sustainable solution full of waste and colour.
"In our globalised and polluted world that threatens us daily, this idea of wanting to organise everything is born - the good and the bad. Bringing it together and making it relative, rewrite it. It is about finding meaning in what we discard.
"Restarting and activating healthy habits for our environment is symbolised by the frozen mixes in moulds and shades that once helped to colour other works. Creating new from old.
"It is like keeping your past and mixing it with your present to weave a new work - like the matryoshka of a painter's palette." ~ Ale Osollo
"Madona", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "This intentionally protective painting refers to a mother, and the challenges life can present.
"We come from our ancestors, and we carry fragments of their past in our present. We are trying to find a place in the uncertain future of our existence, using the spiritual guidance and teachings of those who came before us.
"Nurturing my soul, I hope to create interconnectedness with others. Inspiring ideas, blending the old with the new. Using the wisdom and energy of my ancestry to grow. The matryoshka character keeps generations of connections - the possibilities are endless." ~ Ale Osollo
"Costuras Nude", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "This artwork encapsulated in a wooden and glass box allows the viewer to contemplate. The forms of cutting and making in its doubles and seams arouses curiosity.
"The naturalness of its raw fibres and the textiles and cuts that make up the work capture the attention of the viewer.
"This cut-and-cut theme, making looms, textures and hems create a craft-like origami made of canvas by decomposing the primary elements and using them as ingredients to recompose and mend." ~ Ale Osollo
"Memorias", mixed media on canvas, 2020
Arty-Fact: "In my pursuit of the human figure are born sketches in the form of dancing muses - similar but different - interposing their lines and their bodies one above the other. Or it might be an ancient scroll full of memories.
"For me, mechanical memory and significant memory go hand in hand with connectivism.
"It represents a pause just waiting to be analyzed, and this pause is a delight coming from nowhere.
"The same nebulous forms that my hand forces me to draw over and over again come and go... giving calm to my mind full of intertwined memories... memories of my memories that inhabit me here and now." ~ Ale Osollo
We hope you love Ale's artwork as much as we do!
