Bonjour Addictees!
Can you believe it's been just over a year since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic? We have a new print by Anthea Missy which expresses her emotions (and ours) about distance and missing loved ones.
Welcome to this week's Weekend Art Fix, "La Bise" 💋
"La Bise is a story about people who "miss each other”. It takes place almost a year after the start of confinement. It's a universal narrative spanning humankind. With social distancing measures in place, it feels like we can no longer say hello to our family and friends with a bise (kiss), invoking a feeling of nostalgia. The work reminds us of what we were once able to do without a second thought, highlighting the curtailment of our freedom.
"I created this street art paste-up collage on a Paris wall on the 10th January 2021 (see video) with friends "who I miss". The text is signed 'anonymous', attributing the quote to everyone who is thinking and feeling the same as I am.
"The artwork, found near the Place de la République (rue Juliette Dodue), has now been made into a silkscreen print. Each silkscreen is made in collaboration with a Master Printer. I created the work using my original sketches and photos of the street artwork in situ. With the Printer, we produced the screens, mixed the colours, and the result is a seven colour screenprint." ~ Anthea Missy
