Series: Love
Arty-Fact: “Where there is love there is life” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
In this series, Jamie uses her unique storytelling ability to explore the complex universal theme of love. She defines the collection with the symbology of colour by incorporating feminine hues of reds and pinks. Additionally, she uses graphic in-your-face iconography to speak bluntly on the subject. Known for her less than subtle, over-the-top approach, Jamie’s images of love do not disappoint.
Whether speaking to romantic, platonic, or self-love, Jamie portrays this multi-faceted concept in her signature tongue-in-cheek style. She delights the viewer with dramatic makeup and exaggerated styling that illustrate the various manifestations of love.
Jamie uses the face as her canvas by plastering the model in graphic heart stickers and playful kiss marks. In another image, she uses lighting to paint the picture of love with a heart light shining onto the model. Jamie also explored the complexity of love during COVID. She created an intimate portrait of two women kissing whilst wearing glamorous protective masks. Another image presents the fallible, darker side of love - heartbreak - as depicted by a hand holding a broken heart-shaped mirror.
Jamie celebrates the depth and meaning of love and the empowerment of the female gaze. In this series, she uses lighting, composition, and colour to inspire the viewer to examine their relationship with love. Whether love is lost, love is found, or love is blind - it is a universal subject that resonates with all because “where there is love, there is life.”
