Arty-Fact:
From the inventive mind of designer Alan Aldridge, came the original film poster from Andy Warhol's experimental film Chelsea Girls. It was first created for a special screening at the Arts Laboratory on 182 Drury Lane, London.
The provocative image echoes the narrative and tone of the film itself, one that follows the women of Warhol's circle in and around the infamous Chelsea Hotel. The poster won Aldridge a Silver Award from the Design and Art Directors Club - and a warrant of arrest for pornography charges. He went into hiding for a few days until his lawyer got the charges dropped.
Warhol was extremely happy with the design and commented that he “wished the movie was as good as the poster”.
