L'art de la rue d'Anthea Missy - the street art of Anthea Missy
Hey hey Addictees!
Our favourite Belgium-based, French street artist Anthea Missy is back with a new print: 541.
Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s 1907 Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, Anthea's 541 (read five for one) takes us on a journey where one image reflects 5 faces of the same person; 5 facets of one moment; 5 fantasies; 5 possibilities for 1 moment in time.
In Anthea's words:
"541 - 5 for 1
The 5 “me”
The 5 “you”
The 5 "us"
5 for the price of 1."
"But who are these 5 faces?
The child,
The artist,
The lover,
The friend,
The woman."
This is Anthea's representation of the 5. Who or what are your 5?
Influenced by community engagement and numerous personal artistic endeavours, Anthea shares her art and her profits where she feels it can make a positive difference. 30% of the sales proceeds for 541 will be donated to OutRight Action International.
OutRight Action International fights for the human rights for LGBTIQ people everywhere. OutRight works at the international, regional and national levels to research, document, defend, and advance human rights for LGBTIQ people around the world.
OutRight is the only LGBTIQ organization that has a permanent presence to advocate at the United Nations Headquarters in New York for progress for LGBTIQ people. It has a major stake at the UN on human rights and holds special consultative status there, which allows the organisation to bring to light the concerns of LGBTIQ people globally at this important world forum.
This is not the first time Anthea has supported the LGBTIQ community. In 2018, Anthea painted a mural depicting Ihsane Jarfi in the Riches Claire area - rue Saint Christophe 36. The permanent artwork is part of Ihsane Jarfi Day (17 May) and Belgian Pride Festival. The mural was commissioned by the Rainbow House of Brussels, and supported by the City of Brussels and has been incorporated as part of the collection of artwork featured in the Street Art Brussels tour.

“It was a challenge but also an absolute honour to create this tribute to Ihsane Jarfi. I wanted to convey joy in the mural so as to highlight the hope that drives all human beings and the freedom to express themselves with their own authenticity and to feel accepted and loved for it. The pure shape and colour palette expresses that delicacy and innocence.” - Anthea Missy.
Introducing 541...
“Life is now. We should all grasp the moment and share it with people. I want to share the energy of life in my work and inspire – to explore the path of self-expression that stirs true happiness.
“When people are enthusiastic, I feel a connection. I want my art to be a catalyst - a reminder of our ability to love and create." - Anthea Missy
