Born in 1980 as Farizwan Fajari, this young artist has become known in the art world as 'Speak Cryptic.' Farizwan completed a Master of Arts and Fine Arts at Singapore’s LASALLE College of the Arts in 2007 and has gone on to exhibit in group and solo exhibitions across the world.
Primarily a visual artist, Speak Cryptic also has a strong passion for music and he spends much of his time playing in bands at home in Singapore. Speak Cryptic uses his art to deal with issues relating to cultural identity, and in particular the Malay identity that has been so strongly impacted by the environmental factors in that country.
Speak Cryptic’s art is often life sized or larger, appearing on walls of public entertainment spaces like clubs and bars. He has also used materials like the vinyl from old records to create 3D art.
Speak Cryptic has developed a cast of characters that applies to various narratives in his work. These have been inspired by his knowledge of current affairs and his observations of loss and adversity in the face of globalisation.
