With a background in fashion illustration and graphics, Crees has also been inspired by street art and graffiti in particular. The layers and organic textures of public walls that have been ‘graffitied’ provide inspiration and she has even gone so far as to peel bill posters from walls to use as the basis for a piece of work in a clients home.
Crees’ work is elaborate and textural, each image building on the last to create a multi-layered piece of artwork that is classical in its depth but modern in character.
Sydney based Australian artist Shannon Crees was the only Australian to be included in Banksy’s Cans Festival 2 in London in 2008. The “Cans Festival” was a three-day stencil-art gala which transformed a disused south London tunnel with murals by more than three dozen international artists.
Crees has increasingly dedicated her time to large-scale artwork and taking part in live painting shows. She is an accomplished international artist who has exhibited in local and overseas galleries including Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art for Australian Fashion Week. Crees has also featured on several television programmes including “Getaway” and “The Apprentice and has been profiled by ABC News.
