Hush

"The female form is art, and I always like to convey the power of the female form and how the presence of a woman can influence.”

English artist Hush was formally trained at the Newcastle School of Art and Design, graduating in 1995.

He has found influence from graphic novels, animation and street art and has heavily drawn on the female form as inspiration for his work.

Hush has travelled and worked extensively throughout the world. The influences from Asia, and in particular the feminine elements of Asian culture, play heavily in his pieces. Hush’s lifestyle and exposure to diverse cultures have significantly shaped his growth as an artist and his work provides a powerful commentary on urban culture in different parts of the world.

“I’m not a painter that’ll paint the same thing for the rest of his life, so I wanted to do some realism but continue the theme of adopting little elements of cultures which then fell into something else.”

Techniques employed by Hush include both traditional art practices and street art approaches. Hush incorporates elements of street art on his canvas by adding layers of images that mimic graffiti from the streets. The result is a mélange of mixed media pieces that incorporate painting, screen printing, spray painting and collage.

Numerous publications have featured the work of Hush and his art has been exhibited in New York City, Miami, London, Basel, San Francisco and Berlin.
